Serial Number Production Year Guide | How old is my Omega?

The Ultimate Serial Number Guide for Omega Watches Learn How To Date Your Omega's production year

Model Number vs Serial Number

  • Each watch is also associated with a 4-6 digit model and 7-8 digit serial number. The model number can have letters associated with the numbers giving more detail to the specific iteration.
  • Omega 18k Yellow Gold Constellation Grand Luxe Ref. 2930 SC. SC means center seconds vs a sub-register for the seconds only. 2930 refers to the automatic Omega Constellation "Grand Luxe" with fancy lugs.

  •  The model number is engraved inside or outside of the case back depending on the production year.
  • Sometimes a corresponding serial number will also be on the case back. You'll also see the metal type and case maker engraved inside the case back.

Omega Serial Number Guide

  • All Omega watches are associated with a unique serial number. Serial numbers are etched on the back of lugs or on the caseback.
  • Most swiss manufacturers use chronological serial numbers to track production and identify each watch. The serial number determines the order in which the watch was produced.
  • Photographed below is an Omega Constellation Grand Luxe Ref. 2930 SC (Model number) with a 15,700,000 caliber serial number dating the production year of the movement 1956. The watch was sold three years later on August 6th, 1959.

  • Modern Omega will have an etched seven to eight-digit serial on the case-back or back of the lugs. Each model serial etching can differ in location.

  • Vintage Omega will have an engraved serial inside the caseback and on the movement itself. Vintage is considered anything produced before 1970.
  • The caliber and/or case-back of both modern and vintage Omega is marked with a serial number.

Serial Number on Movement

  • The Omega Speedmaster has its own serial number system. Match your movement or caseback serial number to the left side of the serial number chart.
If you are still having trouble please feel free to call 302-235-9218 or email Sales@BelovedWatch.com

  • The Omega Speedmaster has its own unique serial number chart. Finding the location of the serial number is the same in Speedmasters and other models.

  • Omega watches produced after 2008 should be dated by contacting Omega directly. Use the Omega store locator to find a boutique near you or contact Beloved Watch.

Do not give your vintage Omega to an Omega service center. They have been known to destroy vintage watches by replacing original parts and polishing watches. This can greatly change the value of your vintage Omega watch.
